Short hard freezes put exposed supply lines at risk.
A brief but severe freeze is enough to freeze water in piping near exterior walls or in unconditioned spaces. A repiping plan needs to consider where the existing lines run, then route and insulate replacement piping with those vulnerable areas in mind.
In Tye, mineral buildup also deserves attention when older supply piping is being replaced. Valves, fixture supplies, and water-heating equipment connected to those lines can show the effects of that buildup, so the replacement work needs to consider the components tied into the old system as well as the pipe itself.
A whole-home replacement is not decided by the age of a house alone. The pipe material, pattern of leaks, access to the runs, and the way water is distributed through the house give us the useful information for that decision.
