Potosi rainfall can load water against a foundation quickly
Dry or compacted ground around Potosi sheds heavy rain instead of absorbing it gradually. When a yard slopes toward the house, or roof runoff repeatedly lands near the slab, water concentrates beside the foundation. That leaves puddles, washes soil away at downspouts, and keeps the ground next to the house wet after a storm.
Where clay-rich soil goes through dry and wet cycles, the change in moisture is more than a surface-water issue. Soil beside a foundation dries, then takes on water again, and that uneven change works against stable conditions around the slab. Routing runoff away from the house helps limit repeated saturation in the same area.
We start with the route water already takes: the roof discharge, the yard’s fall, low spots, and the places where water leaves the property. A line that discharges beside the foundation has not corrected the source of the wet ground. Short, intense storms also call for drainage that accepts runoff without backing up and releases it without creating another soggy or eroded area downhill.
